A Brief History of Loganville

The city of Loganville is named after James H. Logan, who attended a sheriff’s sale in Monroe on November 9, 1842 and purchased 62.5 acres in the Fourth Land District for $150. Logan joined other settlers in the area (which was then called Buncombe) and built a house there. Although Logan left the area in 1850, he had etched himself into the area’s history. On June 11, 1851, Buncombe was renamed to Loganville. Loganville’s first town charter were issued by the state in 1887, and the first mayor on record was Dr. J.I. Robinson. A railroad branch was established in 1897. The railroad made its last run on January 17, 1932, after it fell victim to circumstances created by the Great Depression.
